Vienna (pte022/27.06.2013/15:56) - Plans for the swimming complex near the Stadionbad in Vienna's Prater park could soon be fixed.
The federal state and Vienna city council plan to share the cost of the project.
According to sports councillor Christian Oxonitsch, the decision now lies with the Ministry of Sport, who should make a decision before the summer.
The ministry has made clear that the money for the project is available and that they simply need to look at all the details. A agreement could be reached at further meetings in the coming weeks.
For the Sports Minister Gerald Klug (ÖVP) who wants to put an end to the lack of training infrastructure for Olympians, said the clock of ticking.
The planned project in the Prater would include a 50-metre Olympic pool for swimmers, water-polo players and synchronised swimmers. The works would cost around 10 million Euros and it still unclear when construction works would be able to start.
Vienna city council tested five building plans. The Stadionbad was to most cost-effective possibility as it already has an open-air swimming pool and good road connections.
Moreover, the land already belongs to the city of Vienna.
