Vienna (pte020/04.07.2013/16:21) - The ninth edition of the Night against Poverty in Vienna's city hall takes place tonight (Thursday). The wife of the president of the federal republic of Austria, Margit Fischer, is the patron of the event.
The evening includes a salsa-dinner and a concert by the "Parov Stelar trios". Erich Fenninger, who is the manager of the charity Volkshilfe Österreich said: "With the charity evening, we want to show a clear sign against poverty in Austria."
Together with Margit Fisher, he is organising the Gala dinner as well as the charity concert headlined by Parov Stelar. All contributions will benefit people in need in Austria.
Charity boss Fenninger said: "A million people in Austria are threatened by poverty and 400,000 people are directly affected by poverty. The aim of this Night against Poverty is to raise awareness and to collect donations."
Margit Fischer said: "Everyone should know that there is solidarity in this country. The event is to show that everyone can participate in that."
The Gala offers a Salsa dinner for 800 guests from the field of politics, economics and culture. The evening will be moderated by Nadja Bernhard. The opera singers Clemens Unterreiner Ildiko Raimondi will be performing and the actress Ursula Strauss will be reading out the concerns of people stuck by poverty.
