Vienna (pte030/26.06.2013/15:23) - Psychotherapists from across Austria are protesting in Vienna today (Wednesday) against a new draft psychologists-law.
According to protesters, the new law would put university-educated psychologists in a position of dominance over all over professions of the psycho-industry.
Chairman of the Salzburg Association for Psychotherapy, Bernhard Handlbauer said: "We want to tell the Parliamentary Health Committee that this law should not be adopted because there is no reason for it.
"All objections that have been voiced by different sides - such as the Chamber of Labour, the Chamber of Medicine, the City of Vienna, the psychotherapist associations and the and patients representatives - must be heard," he said.
He added that it would be highly questionable if the law was pushed through Parliament before the summer break and that the law would create confusion instead of making things clearer.
"You would no longer know what psychotherapy or psychological treatment is and who is allowed to do what with which qualification," he explained.
Several hundred psychotherapists are expected to take part in the demonstration today (Wednesday).
