Vienna (pte031/05.06.2013/17:58) - The old vivarium in Mariahof in the Murau district of Styria has finally found a buyer.
A Styrian tax adviser has agreed to pay 390,000 Euros for the water adventure park, its house and its 1.500 square metres of land.
He plans to convert the reptile-home into an exhibition centre.
The vivarium, complete with its indoor pool, adventure park and aquariums, was opened in 2005.
Despite several injections of funds from the region, financial problems meant it had to be closed in October 2011.
The tax advisor wants to build an exhibition centre for nature and technology and hopes to attract 15,000 visitors per year.
It is said the contract will be signed in the next few days and if everything goes to plan, the new exhibition centre for nature and technology could open its doors in 2014.
Managing director of the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen nature park tourism commission Reinhard Ferner said: "The tourism commission is persuaded that this was the best offer.
It was finally decided that way because we're all unanimous that the situation has to be solved, we have to be able to continue working - in the tourism branch but also generally in the community.
"This means that the region gets an exhibition centre with which will bring activity again.
This is way, from my point of view, it's the best solution."
A Styrian nanotechnology cosmetic manufacturer showed interest in purchasing the premises in March last year but the project was abandoned due to a lack of investors.
Five investors competed for the vivarium after a successful invitation to bid.
