Vienna (pte026/14.05.2013/12:28) - A new Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC) has recently opened in the regional hospital (LKH) in Graz, Styria.
The new competence centre is the second Austrian institute for cancer research and cancer treatment.
The spokesperson for the CCC Helmut Samonigg said: "This provides the highest quality treatment for patients, together with research in the field of cancer through apprenticeships and training in cancerology.
There are 36.000 new cases of cancer each year in Austria. One in seven patients at the regional hospital in Graz is a cancer patient - the new CCC will allow the hospital to intensify their work in that field.
The CCC should also enable experts from different medical areas to connect together to guarantee the best treatment possible for the patients.
For example, there is a weekly "tumour-board", a meeting where experts from all medical fields will come together to discuss how to optimally work with the medical imagery. All 65 clinical departments of the hospital in Graz are part of the new cancer institute.
