Public transport: prices go up from June
Public transport prices in Vienna are going up from June.

Vienna (pte012/03.05.2013/12:15) - Single tickets for adults will cost 2,10 Euros from this summer, as opposed to 2,00 Euros at present. The monthly cards worth 45 Euros will cost 47 Euros as of June and the weekly pass will cost 15,80 Euros (present: 15 Euros). Prices for the children, student and senior cards will remain unchained.

Since last year, Wiener Linien are allowed to increase their prices to match the increase in costs each year. The spokesperson for the Viennese public transport operator Answer Lang said: "Everything is more expensive - energy, fuel and staff costs."

The firm is hoping to scoop up an extra 14 million Euros from the price increase, which will mainly affect occasional users. The 520,000 yearly users will see the price of their ticket, worth 365 Euros, frozen for the foreseeable future.

The Wiener Linien spokesperson Answer Lang said: "The yearly transport card will cost the same for the time being. One can expect we will try our hardest to see that this stays that way for as long as possible."
