Vienna (pte010/23.04.2013/09:38) - A two day gastronomy market opens today (Tuesday) on the city hall square in Vienna to celebrate 20 years of Fairtrade Österreich (Fairtrade Austria).
Over 30 exhibitors are offering the opportunity to savour new products as well as information on biological agriculture and ideas on how to use up your leftovers.
Under the motto "fair erleben - fairer leben" (English: fair experience, fairer life), organisers and exhibitors aim to present sustainable products as alternatives to mainstream supermarket goods. The biologically grown produce will be available to purchase and stands will provide information on climate protection, and fair-trade commerce.
A third of all foodstuffs worldwide go to waste at present. The stand "Kochen statt wegschmeißen" (English: cooking instead of throwing out) encourages people to plan shopping lists to avoid wasting food and provides people with creative ideas to use up leftovers.
The crème-de-la-crème will be the chocolate-station which will offer an insight into the fair-trade production of pralines.
The market is open from 1000 to 1900 on Tuesday and until 1800 on Wednesday.
