Vienna (pte031/20.03.2013/16:24) - The academy of commerce in Zell am See, Salzburg, is the first municipal building to have made its roof available to produce energy using solar panels.
Locals to the district can now purchase shares in this photovoltaic project.
The Green representative in the Zell am See district of the Salzburg region Werner Hörl said the costs, some 180,000 Euros, were covered in just three months.
He said: "We collected a total of 180,000 Euros from locals who are taxed at three percent on their purchase. The installation is so profitable that they will yield profits.
"We gave ourselves three months to find the money, and by then, we were sold-out. However, we have decided to put those who are still interested on a waiting list to inform them of new projects."
There is a growing interest in this sort of project. The information event held in Thomatal (Salzburg) at the end of February attracted far more people than the organisers expected.
