Pforzheim/Stuttgart (pts014/05.08.2010/10:47) - Panel discussion and workshops on market development, fuel quality and international trade - advance notice of dates: Interpellets 2011, October 5-7, 2011, Stuttgart Trade Fair Center
The growing internationalization of the wood pellet industry means that demands placed on the market are also increasing. There is call to harmonize standards and to expand international business relations in production, trade and logistics.
On July 1, 2010, association representatives from eight European countries founded the "European Pellet Council" (EPC). In future, this umbrella organization will primarily represent the European pellets industry in Brussels, and is also intended to advance use of the ENplus wood pellet certification system, which guarantees uniform fuel quality, throughout Europe. The 10th Pellets Industry Forum, due to take place from September 7-8 in Stuttgart, offers the industry's experts and decision makers the opportunity to gain a compact overview of the latest developments and prospects in the international pellet market, and to discuss the necessary political framework. The event organizer, Solar Promotion GmbH, expects around 550 international experts and decision makers from industry, research and politics to attend. This year, the pellet industry's hot technologies, products and services will be on show at a specialist exhibition running in parallel to the forum. Interpellets 2011, the international pellet technology trade fair, will resume on October 5-7, 2011 - also at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Center.
Panel discussion on subsidization policy: Beneficial or obstructive to the wood pellet industry?
The 10th Pellets Industry Forum will open with a keynote talk entitled "Peak Oil: A Turning Point for Mankind" by Dr. Colin J. Campbell, founder of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO), from Ireland. Following this, representatives from different industry sectors will present their assessment of developments in the international market. Also on the first conference day, the program will focus on the influence that different political conditions exert on the industry's future: In addition to new requirements in terms of the technical development of pellets heating systems, the potential impact of emissions trading on the market will also be discussed, as will the consequences of changes to important subsidization programs such as Germany's market incentive program.
Whether the industry's current subsidy policy is beneficial, or whether, in the long term, it will become obstructive owing to unsteady developments, will be debated by representatives from politics and business in a panel discussion to close the first conference day.
Workshops on combustion technology, international trade and quality assurance
On the second conference day, concise country reports will provide information on advances in individual key markets: Experts will shed light on the latest market developments and prospects in Scandinavia, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, France, Eastern Europe and North America. One workshop will be dedicated to analyzing the utilization coefficient of pellet heating systems, to the increases in efficiency and emission reductions of combined pellet-solar systems, and to the new requirements as a result of the first amendment to the German Federal Emission Control Ordinance (BImSchV). International trade and the industrial use of pellets will also be tackled in a further workshop, where the spotlight will fall on the use of wood pellets in power plants and sustainability certification. A third workshop will be devoted to pellet production, ensuring fuel quality and storage safety. Here, initial experiences relating to the new European wood pellet standard (EN 14961-2) will be presented, as will guidelines on the transportation and storage of pellets to ensure safety.
In addition to attending talks, experts will this year also gain information regarding the latest products and services from different companies at a parallel exhibition. The specialist exhibition running alongside the forum will also be open to interested trade visitors who are not participating in the conference.
Approximately 20 exhibitors will present the industry's latest products and services here. A more detailed program for the 10th Pellets Industry Forum can be found at http://www.pelletsforum.de .
