Pforzheim/Stuttgart (pts009/18.06.2010/09:21) - The role of wood pellet fuel is undergoing dynamic development in international heating markets. The number of pellet heating systems supplying heat to private houses and apartment buildings, as well as to local heating networks and large, megawatt-scale plants, is growing at pace along with the number of pellet manufacturing facilities worldwide. The imminent introduction of an EU norm for wood pellets and its implementation using the ENplus quality certification label will involve comprehensive quality assurance for the fuel on an international scale. The 10th Pellets Industry Forum will take place against the backdrop of this dynamic market environment on September 7-8 at the International Congress Center of the Stuttgart Trade Fair Center. The organizer, Solar Promotion GmbH, expects around 550 experts and decision makers from all over the world to attend. In parallel to the conference, a specialist exhibition will present the latest technologies, products and services from the pellet industry.

New wood pellet production facilities are being built across the globe: A new pellet production plant has been under construction since March of this year in Waycross, in the south of the US state of Georgia. RWE Innogy, a subsidiary of German energy utility RWE, is responsible for the factory, which is anticipated to manufacture around 750,000 metric tons of wood pellets per year in future. Also in Georgia, Magnolia BioPower LLC is planning a pellet plant that is set to produce one million metric tons of wood pellets each year starting in April 2012. At the same time, a pellet production facility is currently being built in Vyborg, Russia, which, to date, is the largest in the world with an annual production capacity of 900,000 metric tons.

International trade presents the pellet industry with both opportunities and challenges, and will therefore be a key topic at the 10th Pellets Industry Forum, due to take place on September 7-8 at the International Congress
Center of the Stuttgart Trade Fair Center. The plenary session on the first day of the conference will see presentations from distinguished speakers on trends and developments in the international pellet market. An overview of key European and global markets will illustrate the development of and prospects for the global pellet market from the perspective of different market players. Political conditions will then be discussed during the afternoon plenary session: Topics will include the creation of reliable subsidization programs in a bid to clear the backlog of renovation projects in the heating market, as well as the significance of the new EU norm in the growing international market.

A panel discussion centering on the role of politics and its influence on the pellet market will conclude the first day of the conference. National and EU level politicians as well as representatives from companies and associations are due to attend.

Harmonized EU norm intended to further safeguard quality standards at the heart of the conference program

The 10th Pellets Industry Forum will provide further in-depth information to pellet producers, boiler manufacturers, distributors, service providers and investors in the four sessions on day two of the event. The European norm EN 14961-2, due to be adopted shortly and intended to further safeguard quality standards for wood pellet fuel, will attract great interest here. The norm will replace all national norms that are currently in force, and will contain new quality classes. Classes A1, A2 and B take account of the diverse range of raw materials in different European countries. Furthermore, within class B, the EU norm defines the properties of "industrial pellets" for the first time. The German Pellet Institute (DEPI) is set to implement the European norm for wood pellets with a new quality certification seal, ENplus. Europe-wide market introduction will take place over the next few years. Further topics in this session production of wood pellets, storage and logistics.

Country reports, systems technology and international trade and logistics

Concise country reports, already something of a tradition at the conference, describe the current situation in pellet markets across the world for selected countries which are relevant to the industry. A further series of presentations will be devoted to the industrial use of pellets, the large trading volumes required for this and the challenges which result for all market stakeholders. All the latest on research in systems technology, combustion and emissions will be discussed in a separate forum.

Parallel exhibition presents the latest products and services

As the Interpellets exhibition will not take place again until October 2011, a accompanying specialist exhibition will be held in parallel to the 10th Pellets Industry Forum. Exhibitors here will display the latest products and services that the industry has to offer.
