Pforzheim (pts026/12.12.2006/11:11) - Intersolar, Europe's largest solar technology trade fair, will be held in Munich from 2008. The continuous growth of Intersolar means that Freiburg, the current site, is becoming too small. Intersolar keeps the international trade up to date on new developments in photovoltaics, solar thermal technology and solar architecture. The organisers of Intersolar - the Pforzheim-based Solar Promotion GmbH and the Freiburg-based Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG (FWTM) - will continue to work together at the new location. Next year will be Freiburg's last to host Intersolar.

International appeal of Munich as the new Intersolar location

Crucial factors were behind the decision in favour of the new Intersolar location: Munich is one of Germany's most important trade fair locations. It boasts very good infrastructure for both exhibitors and professional visitors alike. Munich has a major international airport and sufficient hotel accommodation. In addition, Munich is located in the centre of the German solar market and has an international appeal. Apart from that, Munich, as the future location of Intersolar, has a major pulling power for the surging solar markets of countries such as Italy, France and Spain. Besides, Munich, already familiar in many countries as a host city for trade fairs, has good marketing channels. All this opens up new opportunities and synergies for Intersolar as well.

Increase in exhibitor and trade visitor numbers from abroad to 40%

Currently, international exhibitors and trade visitors make up around 30% of the attendance. The organisers intend to increase this figure for the new Munich location to approx. 40%. This would meet the aspirations of the exhibiting companies, which are increasingly active on the global market.

The first Intersolar took place in Freiburg in 2000. At that time, around 9,000 square metres of exhibition space were needed. In 2007 this space will have more than tripled to 31,000 square metres. This in effect exhausts the space possibilities of the Freiburg trade fair site. The Intersolar fairs of recent years have clearly shown that exhibitors increasingly need larger areas for their stands. At the same time, each year there are new companies showing at Intersolar. From 2008, Intersolar will be able to meet this demand.

As the new location, Munich will meet the demand for greater capacity and growth in the international market

"At the new location, Intersolar will be able to offer all our exhibitors more space. Apart from that, solar technology is continuing to develop links on the global commercial stage. Each year, Intersolar reflects this developing international character," emphasises Horst Dufner, Project Manager of Solar Promotion GmbH.

"Although for Freiburg as the host city, Intersolar's move is painful, we feel that Munich will prove to be a reliable and forward-looking partner." According to Bernd Dallmann, Managing Director of FWTM, "Freiburg remains a co-organiser and will continue to drive forward developments in solar technology both at home and abroad."

Intersolar 2007, the last to be hosted by Freiburg, will run from
21st to 23rd June 2007. The organisers expect 510 exhibitors and approx. 26,000 trade visitors. estec 2007, Europe's most important international conference on solar power, running from 19th to 20th June will act as the run-up to the exhibition. In June 2008, solar experts from around the world will be gathering in Munich for the first time.
