Zurich, Switzerland (ptp026/09.01.2019/14:00) - With Patricia Zenklusen, unconventional things are the order of the day. In recent years she has repeatedly caused a stir with her noisy chainsaw art. The dynamic wooden figures of the Swiss artist have so far been presented at numerous exhibitions in Berlin, San Diego, Miami, Expo Milano and New York.
Now the artist is moving in a new direction. Together with her family she founded an art start-up "ARTBOX.GROUPS" three years ago. With her start-up Patricia Zenklusen wants to offer aspiring and young artists a platform for their art. "There are many talented artists, but most of them lack good exhibition opportunities where they can be seen by the public," explains Patricia Zenklusen. That's why she has set herself the goal of making a difference in the art world with her new project. Every year the ARTBOX.GROUPS organizes an international art project that is open to every artist. She adds: "With innovative ideas and the integration of new techniques, it is possible for us to create a diverse platform for the artists - for example, artists are also shown digitally on our large LED screen". So far, three successful art projects have been carried out in Miami, Basel and New York.
Now her biggest art project to date is on the agenda. In August 2019, the first SWISSARTEXPO will take place in the SBB Event Hall at Zurich Central Station. As is typical for Patricia Zenklusen, SWISSARTEXPO will not be a conventional art exhibition. "SWISSARTEXPO is an art festival that unites different art styles, people and cultures. In addition to the diverse arts, there will also be a wide range of live events and specials," she explains. This art exhibition will once again be dedicated to promoting young and up-and-coming artists. Admission to SWISSARTEXPO is free for all visitors.
The complete interview with Patricia Zenklusen:
You founded an art start-up, what motivated you?
Patricia Zenklusen: I have made many exciting contacts in the art world in recent years through my work as an artist - including many talented artists. There are a lot of talented artists, but most of them lack good exhibition opportunities where they can be seen by the public. I want to change that, I want to offer these artists a platform and the chance to show their art.
What does this platform look like?
Big and in the middle of the action. Every year we organize an international art project that is open to all artists. With innovative ideas and the integration of new techniques, it is possible for us to create a diverse platform for the artists - for example, artists are also shown digitally on our large LED screen. We attach great importance to finding a location that is very well visited by itself. Two years ago, for example, our art project took place at Basel Airport.
So you bring art to people?
Exactly, especially for emerging artists it is very helpful and important to be seen by as large a mass as possible. That's why we chose the SBB Event Hall at Zurich Main Station as the location for SWISSARTEXPO.
What is the SWISSARTEXPO?
SWISSARTEXPO is an art festival that unites different art styles, people and cultures. In addition to the diverse arts, there will also be a wide range of live events and specials.
How are the works of art exhibited at SWISSARTEXPO?
In contrast to conventional art exhibitions, we will not set up exhibition boxes, but hang exhibition walls from the ceiling. By saving space, we will be able to allow an even larger number of artists to participate in the exhibition.
You speak of exhibition walls, are only paintings exhibited?
No, we have planned a separate sculpture trail for sculptures. There are also opportunities for video and performance artists to participate.
Is SWISSARTEXPO a one-time project?
The aim is to show SWISSARTEXPO in Zurich on an annual basis from now on and, in the future, also to hold it at various locations around the world.
