Zurich / Wetzikon (pts017/11.10.2006/10:30) - Shielded and unshielded STAR Real10 range already market-proven / Uncompromising when it comes to quality
R&M is continuing to extend its lead in the market for high-performance copper cabling. Already more than 3.5 million channels suitable for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GBASE-T) have been installed at customers of the Swiss cabling specialist. For this new dimension in data networks R&M is offering its STAR Real10 range. It comprises unshielded (UTP) and shielded (FTP, STP) solutions based on twisted pair copper cabling with RJ45/Cat. 6 connectors. The STAR Real10 range complies with all the requirements of the recently ratified standard IEEE 802.3an and offers unrivalled margins on a number of key parameters. Issued by the Danish test laboratory 3P, five current certificates for different channel configurations confirm the performance capability of the STAR Real10 range.
R&M is also pursuing an uncompromising quality approach to the planned IEC and TIA standard for 10Ggigabit Ethernet. "While we support these international standardization processes we believe it is premature and misleading at this stage to designate network segments as Category EA or connector systems as Cat. 6a. From the very outset R&M has been convinced that shielded cabling is the most secure solution for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Nonetheless R&M has tapped into its more than twelve years of experience as a pioneer in shielded cabling and come up with a new technology for unshielded LAN cabling environments that guarantees the required performance, i.e. WARP technology. Available for over one year, the STAR Real10 UTP range with WARP technology has generated outstanding interest on the international market, because it brings the advantages of shielded technology yet can be installed like a UTP cable. A large number of networks have been implemented using the UTP solution which can be used immediately for the 10 Gigabit Ethernet application. This solution is ideal for situations where customers are keen to retain UTP systems for reasons of compatibility. R&M intends to update and further develop both the shielded and the unshielded range for 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
The shielded version STAR Real10 STP has now been available for six years and was the first fully developed 10 Gigabit solution in the market. In the meantime even leaders in UTP cabling have recognized the advantages of shielded solutions for high performance applications such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet and are launching their own shielded solutions on the market.
