Vienna (pts008/04.05.2006/09:00) - Many People try after months of dieting to get rid of their last resistant unwanted fat from specific areas by Liposuction. Although modern Liposuction with Microcannulas (Liposculpture) can optimize the body silhouette by sculpturing localized fat, this is not the right order of things. "If you do Liposuction before diet, the fat cells are full of fat and can easily be ruptured with the cannula. The fat can then be easily removed", says cosmetic surgeon DDr.Heinrich.
After diet, especially after a weight loss of 15-20 kg, the fat cells are relatively empty and may become somewhat resistant to liposuction. This may compromise the results of surgery. The removal of unwanted fat in certain areas by liposuction can also have a psychological effect. The visible success of surgery can be very motivating. Weight loss through diet and sports may well become easier after this kind of trigger experience.
DDr. Heinrich: "If you're contemplating liposuction as part of your weight loss programme, this should be done as the first step, not as the last." Also weight loss should not be attempted without a proper medical check, where eating habits will be discussed and analysed as well as the hormonal status. There may exist a disbalance, leading to diet-resistant obesity. This should be treated by balancing the hormones as part of a general weight loss programme.
