New York (pte032/17.06.2005/13:37) - Oprah Winfrey, former actress, now popular talk-show host ranks as the Number One celebrity from the top 100 worldwide, according to the Forbes Magazine http://www.forbes.com power rankings.
Moving up two notches since 2004, Oprah overtook Mel Gibson, actor and Passion of Christ director, who slipped to number three. Tiger Woods maintained his second place position.
Forbes' power rankings are based on celebrities' earnings from the past 12 months, and popularity, which is monitored in such mediums as Internet, press clippings, abundance of magazine cover stories, and TV and radio exposure.
Winfrey's 'Oprah' show is watched by 30 million US viewers every week and is broadcast in 112 other countries. Winfrey's fortune amounted to $US225 million in the past year.
Gibson earned $185 million, and Woods collect $87 million ($112.74 million) from competitions and endorsement deals.
Star Wars director/producer, George Lucas, ranked fourth on the list and was the highest money earner, with $US290 million, in the last 12 months.
Basketball star Shaquille O'Neal ranked fifth, followed by film director/producer Steven Spielberg, actor Johnny Depp, pop music stars Madonna and Elton John and actor Tom Cruise.
