London (pte057/07.06.2005/17:00) - A statement will be issued on Wednesday by the G8 nations, which includes US National Academy, and China and Brazil, that countries need to take action to cut the emissions of carbon dioxide.
World leaders who are attending the G8 meeting, scheduled in Scotland in July http://www.foe-scotland.org.uk/nation/g8.html , have already been informed of the statement.
Prime Minister Tony Blair is meeting with President Bush today, Tuesday, to discuss the G8 agenda, which includes African aid and global warming.
Bush, not convinced of climate science, has shown scepticism about global warming and related topics. It is hoped that the G8 statement will give him the hard scientific facts needed to convince the American president about possible strategies.
Prime Minister Blair has been advised to try and persuade Bush to take action.
Governments of the world's other leading nations are being urged to heed science academies' advice to act before it is too late.
