Brussels (pte025/01.06.2005/11:55) - Microsoft http:/www.microsoft.com , under pressure to comply with the European Union's antitrust rules by 1st June, has submitted its outlines on how best to overcome the potentially expensive ruling.
"We have submitted proposals and we are awaiting a response from the EU Commission," a spokesman said.
The software giant was threatened with fines that could reach US$5 million a day if it didn't make the June deadline and curb its current market dominance by sharing core software with rivals so that they could build compatible software.
The European Commission stipulated that Microsoft's Windows programme would have to be made available without Windows Media Player so that other companies could supply their operating system of choice.
Microsoft was fined 497 million euros last year for abusing its dominant market position.
