Media vs the law: Does it go too far?
The ongoing niggle between the law and the media continues in th UK

London (pte037/25.05.2005/13:32) - A number of cases involving the UK print media and the law are creating mild ripples in the media world.

Recently the Daily Mail http://dailymail.co.uk wrote that the criminal system is in a "dangerous shambles" when it was released that offenders freed early from jail are often promptly sent back.

The Daily Mirror http://www.dailymirror.co.uk spoke out by advocating a judge's view that the sale of weapons needs to be reviewed when a murderer recently bought weapons by mail order.

It is general consensus that murder laws need to be reformed. According to The Sun and the Independent, the proposals are 'sensible, whilst the Guardian asks, 'who could disagree?'

However columnist Leo McKinstry from Daily Express believes such a move would 'send a disastrous message to society'.
