Neo-Nazi spam infiltrates inboxes through virus
Right-wing English and German spam cloggs email inboxes

New York (pte031/18.05.2005/12:14) - McAfee Inc http://www.mcafee.com has been inundated with complaints that began last week when Neo-Nazi spam infiltrated inboxes across the globe.

The content of the messages were stories that "smell of right-wing political rhetoric," said Vincent Gullotto, vice president of McAfee Inc.'s antivirus emergency response team. As well, the emails contained website links that attempted to infect hard drives.

Some of the messages were on the subject of World War II, containing the subject line '60 Years of Freedom: Who's Celebrating? in German, and also 'Honorable Action', which was linked to the German right-wing nationalist party's website, NPD.

McAfee dubbed the virus 'Sober.q' when it appeared on the Internet in October 2003. The current virus is the 16th variant of the original German-oriented virus, which, rather than be contained in an email attachment, targets already infected computers and updates information.

Gullotto warns Internet/email users to be on the alert for other attacks.
