Gates tells media that iPod-madness won't last
Apple Computer Inc shouldn't get 'too comfortable'

Frankfurt (pte044/13.05.2005/15:20) - Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft Corp http://www.microsoft.com doesn't believe that Apple Computer Inc. http://www.apple.com will have the monopoly on the portable music playing world for too long.

"I don't think the success of the iPod can continue in the long term, however good Apple may be," Gates said.

The former chairman of Microsoft, said that parallels could also be drawn with computers: "Apple was once extremely strong with its Macintosh and graphic user interface, like with the iPod today, and then lost its position."

Since they were introduced by Apple, the iPod has soared in popularity and use, with over 15 million sold to date. But there is mounting competition in the portable digital music market from phone makers, who are campaigning to show mobile phones that download music directly onto the phone.
