Beijing (pte017/12.05.2005/10:15) - Microsoft's MSN http://www.msn.com has officially been brought into China. The computer software company has formed a Joint Venture with Shanghai MSN Network Communications Technology Co Ltd and Shanghai Alliance Investment Ltd (SAIL), which is owned by the Shanghai municipal government.
The alliance will be a 50-50 deal, said Chuan Luo, MSN regional director for China. However he declined to give details about the investment volume of the company.
Luo maintained that China would become an important part of MSN'S global operations. He added that his firm would provide additional services to the already established free Hotmail and MSN messenger services, including wireless value-added services, and a search service.
"In addition to delivering MSN services to meet local customers' needs and interests," said Tim Chen, vice-president of Microsoft and CEO, "we are working closely with local companies as part of our ongoing commitments to contributing to the growth of the local technology industry in China."
Microsoft has also bought research and development assets in South China's Guangdong Province from TSSX Mobile a mobile software developer in Shenzhen.
Chuck Friedman, general manager of MSN Mobile said, "We are committed to growing our MSN business globally and this is a great opportunity for us to work with TSSX, which is very valuable to Microsoft."
