Hobart, Tasmania (pte028/06.05.2005/12:43) - At an international conference currently being held in Tasmania by the Australia and New Zealand Clean Air Society http://www.casanz.org.au experts warned that indoor air pollution can contribute to health problems.
Professor Kirk Smith from the University of California says that indoor pollution can be caused by leaking woodheaters and cigarette smoke. "There are also chemicals coming from furniture, mould, you know moisture in the walls," he added.
Clean Air Society's president Gavin Fisher said that better burners and public education are necessary to reduce potential health problems that are related to woodsmoke emissions. According to Fisher any city that has more than 100,000 people, cars and combustion has an air quality problem.
Other topics on the Hobart conference agenda include climate change, greenhouse affects and industrial sources and controls.
