Zurich (pte052/12.04.2005/15:30) - Swiss semiconductor manufacturer Micronas http://www.micronas.com has announced that it has got off to a difficult start in 2005, with consolidated net sales for the first three months amounting to 193.1 million Swiss francs (124.7 million euros), 13.8 per cent lower than in the previous quarter. As the company reports in a press release on its website, profits fell to 7.84 million francs (5.1 million euros), or 0.24 francs (0.15 euros) a share. In the first quarter of this year, the company's EBITDA totalled 36.4 million francs (23.7 million euros), or 1.15 francs (0.74 euros) a share. This represented a fall of 37.1 per cent compared with the fourth quarter of 2004.
According to the company, it is expected that for the second quarter of 2005, sales and earnings will be on a par with the first quarter. "On the basis of the indicators known to us today, we are confident that the second half of 2005 will bring growth compared with the first half. From the present viewpoint and given the poor first-half performance, we do not rule out the possibility that the 2005 business year as a whole will see a fall in sales compared with the record year of 2004," said the company.
