Stockholm (pte025/21.01.2005/12:30) - Swedish telecom giant Ericsson http://www.ericsson.com has signed a five-year contract with H3G Italy http://www.h3g.it to run its third-generational mobile phone network, according to the company. As TMC.net http://www.tmcnet.com reports, Ericsson said that H3G Italy will save around 250 million euros during the five years. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
H3G Italy is one of the world's largest 3G operators and has over 2.6 million subscribers in Italy. The contract contains optimisation of assets and management of H3G Italy's 3G-multimedia environment, including management of the service layer and business support systems. The agreement will see around 760 H3G Italy workers being transferred to Ericsson, as Ericsson takes over responsibility for the overall management and maintenance of the network in the second quarter of 2005.
"The solution put in place together with Ericsson allows us to increase the value of the network and IT assets, the know-how and the work developed in UMTS up to today," said Vincenzo Novari, CEO of H3G Italy. "By entering this managed services partnership with Ericsson, H3G Italy will benefit from Ericsson's local resources, global expertise, world-class methods, tools and processes for managing multi-vendor and multi-technology networks," he added.
