Seoul (pte031/18.01.2005/14:00) - South Korea's third largest handset manufacturer Pantech http://www.pantech.com has announced today, Tuesday, that it has released the world's first sports leisure phone. As Yonhap News http://www.yonhapnews.co.kr reports, the South Korean mobile phone maker, which is unveiling the new phone with its allied company Curitel Communications, claims that the Curitel PH-S65000 can discern the movement of the handset holder.
"The new phone can be used for such activities as games, running and climbing as it utilises six-axis technology of acceleration and magnetism," said Kim Yong-ho, a spokesman for the company." The six-axis sensor measures users' direction and speed of movement to show the consumed calories and travelled distance. According to Kim, Pantech will sell the state-of-the-art phones through SK Telecom, the top mobile operator in the country.
The Curitel sports leisure phone also features a compass and an altimeter, making it useful for joggers and mountain climbers. Games such as fishing and racing games are stored in the phone and can be played by waving the phone itself instead of using the keypad. At present, the handset costs 451,000 South Korean Won (333.32 euros).
