Stockholm (pte019/02.12.2004/10:45) - Mobile phone provider Ericsson http://www.ericsson.com has announced that it has signed a mobile music distribution agreement with Warner Music International http://www.wmg.com , that will see some of the label's music distributed via mobile phone in Europe. Under the agreement, Warner International will use Ericsson's mobile music service M-USE to distribute some of its most popular artists, through traditional ring tones, as well as artist logos, autographs and ring tones based on original recordings. The music will be distributed to as many as 28 markets throughout Europe. (see http://www.ericsson.com/press/20041201-151204.html )
"Warner Music has a very impressive line-up of artists and together with our customers, we will make Warner's music available to mobile consumers throughout Europe," said Hans Vestberg, senior vice president of Ericsson's global services unit. "Ericsson experiences very high demand for our mobile music service M-USE, and with the addition of the great content and promotion opportunities Warner brings to the table, we expect the demand to increase even further."
For the American music label, it is a chance to expand its artist roster into a new market. "We see tremendous potential in the mobile sales channel and in Ericsson we have an ideal partner to help us maximise this opportunity internationally," said Jay Durgan, senior vice president for strategic partnerships and business development with Warner Music.
At present, Warner Music content is available through M-USE in Austria and Sweden, but with the new agreement this will expand throughout most of Europe. M-USE is part of Ericsson's managed services hosting offering, where Ericsson and other mobile operators work together to market new services to subscribers.
