Munich (pte043/30.06.2003/16:51) - European computer producers Fujitsu Siemens Computers http://www.fujitsu-siemens.de will soon be building Intel IA 64-bit Itanium 2 processors into their server components.
Intel http://www.intel.com will soon be bringing its Itanium2 processor, up to now labelled the "Madison", onto the market. The new Intel processor line will be used for the PRIMERGY and hcpLine server family.
According to Fujitsu Siemens, the innovative technology offers better processing performance, optimised use of storage, maximal I/O flow rate and generally reliable hardware. It is also supposed to lower user administration and infrastructure costs.
Intel hopes to increase the use of its Itanium2-based systems on the high-end server market. Many clients are already counting on the "Madison" for Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) models.
Fujitsu-Siemens's new PRIMERGY server will support both Microsoft and Linux operating systems. Delivery is to start in the last quarter of 2003.
