Palo Alto/ Nuernberg (pte016/27.06.2003/15:04) - PC and printer group Hewlett-Packard (HP) http://www.hp.com and German Linux distributor SuSE Linux http://www.suse.de are expanding the scope of their partnership, which is now going into its fifth year.
The renewed partnership will make SuSE the preferred systems deliverer for HP products. In the future HP will be equipping its standard server HP Proliant and Itanium2-based server with a SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 operating system.
HP will also take over the distribution and pre-installation of the new SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 on 32-bit standard servers for the HP Proliant series as well as HP servers with 64-bit-Itanium 2 processors.
"This partnership between SuSE Linux and HP will fuel the rapid spread of Linux servers in companies," said Jean S. Bozman, research vice-president of IDC market research.
SuSE Linux is one of the world's leading suppliers of comprehensive solutions based on the Linux open source operating system. Last year HP sold the largest number of Linux servers.
