London (pte023/24.06.2003/15:01) - French mobile provider Orange http://www.orange.com plans to be the fourth company to join the European mobile telecommunications alliance, currently consisting of T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles and Telecom Italia (TIM).
In April the alliance announced it planned to offer a unified service outside national boundaries to better compete against branch leader Vodafone. The new trans-European alliance will offer Orange clients both old and new services in countries in which the mobile provider is not represented.
"By bringing all Orange countries into the alliance, we will be able to strengthen our business and grow, as well as gain a full competitive advantage," said Solomon Trujillo, who has been head of Orange since March.
Orange has further announced it is likely to achieve its goal of five per cent turnover growth in 2003. In 2004 and 2005 Orange expects even greater growth, with operating cash flow climbing between 40 and 45 per cent from 2003 to 2005. Orange, which is part of the highly indebted France Telecom group, posted a net loss in 2002.
