Munich (pte038/23.06.2003/16:10) - German semiconductor firm Infineon introduced its new security solution for tires today in Munich http://www.infineon.com/cgi/ecrm.dll/jsp/showfrontend.do?lang=EN&content_type=NEWS&content_oid=83009&news_nav_oid=-9979 .
In the new system, sensors integrated into the tires can measure tire pressure, temperature and movement - data which are then radio-transmitted to a display on the dashboard and eliminate the need for a manual tire check.
Infineon considers sensors are an important step toward improved automotive safety and reduced petrol consumption. In the USA as early as 2007all new cars are to be equipped with tire pressure measurement systems. Optimal tire pressure reduces friction and the amount of wear on tires.
According to Infineon, the takeover of Norwegian manufacturer SensoNor has allowed it to further expand its position on the market for automotive semiconductor solutions, as well as become market leader in the field of tire sensors.
