Vista, California (pte025/20.06.2003/14:06) - Just in time for summer, the "things the world doesn't need" industry has come up with a radio-equipped snorkel called "Aqua FM". The device, which can be purchased in the US for about 130 dollars, allows people to listen to their favourite radio stations under water http://www.sealmask.com/news/news1.html .
The radio receiver and two AAA batteries are built into the mouthpiece of the snorkel, which the swimmer has clamped between his jaws. The radio then makes use of the bones in the swimmer's face to direct the radio sounds into the person's inner ear. Radio fans in Europe will also be pleased to know that the device does not fall under state requirements for radio fees, as it is portable and intended for non-stationary use.
