Linus Torvalds goes to OSDL
Founder of Linux to focus on developing code

Santa Clara (pte035/17.06.2003/14:08) - Linus Torvalds will soon be joining the "Open Source Development Lab" (OSDL) http://www.osdl.com , taking a leave-of-absence from Transmeta where he has workeed for over six years.

OSDL is a joint development laboratory of 21 companies, including HP, IBM, Intel and NEC, which aims to further develop Linux.

The Finnish creator of Linux announced in a posting on the developer list that Linux would now become his "main job" http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0306.2/0254.html . However he said he did not think all that much would change for him.

"I do not expect a huge amount of change as a result, testament to just
/how/ freely Transmeta has let me do Linux work," wrote Torvalds. His new e-mail address is torvalds@osdl.org .

Torvalds also announced the release of Linux 2.5.72 in his mailing, describing some of the most important changes.

Transmeta and OSDL are expected to release their official statements on the transfer tomorrow.
