Vuitton has new advertising strategy
Architecture to carry image of luxury label

Berlin (pte024/13.06.2003/14:33) - French luxury fashion label Louis Vuitton http://www.vuitton.com is the first fashion company to found its own architecture group, which the label hopes will spread a "glowing image" throughout the world.

In recent years it has become trendy for respected architects to design boutiques for labels such as Gucci, Jil Sander or Armani. Vuitton has, however, taken the trend a step further. Instead of commissioning architects for single projects, the company has brought together its own team of international architects.

Headed by Eric Carlson, the team will create so-called "Commercial Cathedrals" for Vuitton in cities like Tokyo or New York, reports the Wall Street journal. Of the eleven projects already under way or in planning, most of them are located in Asia. The luxury boutiques will be characterised by open spaces and glass walls.

Vuitton is not prepared to reveal the exact costs of its architecture project, but the Wall Street Journal estimates that each building will cost about ten million euros. Some analysts are calling it a risky move in light of the lag in the tourism and luxury goods markets. But Vuitton hopes the investment will pay off by distinguishing it from all the other fashion houses.
