Los Angeles (pte022/13.06.2003/14:19) - A US citizen and resident of California has pleaded guilty to redirecting the Internet traffic of Arabian news service Al-Jazeera during the War in Iraq. As reported by US service Cnet http://www.cent.com , 24-year-old web designer John William Racine hopes that pleading guilty will reduce his sentence.
Racine took over the Al-Jazeera portal after it had broadcast images of dead and captured US soldiers. He allegedly used fake documents to get VeriSign subsidiary Network Solutions to sign over the Al-Jazeera domain to him. Visitors to the site were then re-directed to another homepage displaying the American flag and the slogan "Let Freedom Ring ...". Racine also received all e-mails sent to the news service.
The US web designer could now face a sentence of up to 25 years in jail and a fine of up to 500,000 dollars. Racine hopes, however, that his confession and cooperation with the FBI will help reduce his sentence to 1,000 hours of community service and a fine of 1,500 dollars. Racine signed his plea yesterday; the trial is scheduled tol commence on Monday. (newsfox-special Iraq)
