New York (pte033/12.06.2003/15:52) - After a two-year drought, statistics show that income in the US online advertising sector grew in the fourth quarter of 2002.
The figures are based on the "Internet Ad Revenue Report" published today, Thursday, by the American Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) http://www.iab.net and the new media group Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) http://www.pwcglobal.com .
According to the report, online advertising income increased by nine per cent to 1.6bn dollars in the last quarter of 2002, compared to 1.5bn dollars in the previous quarter. Total turnover for 2002 reached 6.0bn dollars - a drop of 16 per cent compared to 2001.
Pete Petrusky, head of PwC, said a number of factors that had been slowing turnover have now become positive influences. Among these factors are the introduction of high-speed Internet and the increased participation of large companies in web advertising. Greg Stuart, president and CEO of IAB added that the media landscape had changed and many advertising professionals were using this change to strengthen client relations.
The IAB has sponsored the "Internet Ad Revenue Report" since 1996. A comprehensive report is published twice a year.
