Hamburg (pte029/12.06.2003/15:08) - Online consumers still prefer to pay their bills offline, reports a recent survey by Hamburg market researchers Mummert Consulting http://www.mummert-consulting.de .
Up to 68 per cent of those questioned would rather receive an invoice. The most popular method of online payment is a debit note, preferred by 70 per cent of those questioned, followed by credit card payment (49 per cent) and billing systems (28 per cent). Mobile phones and e-mail play a subordinate role in payment - used by only 15 per cent of the participants in the survey.
In general, people tend to be concerned about the use of digital billing systems. A significant 85 per cent said they were in favour of stricter laws governing online payment. Credit card clients said they also wanted more security. Although credit cards are often used to pay for goods and services online, only one in every four online shopper has faith in the existing security standards.
