Atlanta (pte052/06.06.2003/16:57) - US software company Sybase has launched a strategic initiative for WLAN applications. The company, which specialises in databank administration and middleware will invest 25m dollars in the development of applications for companies using WLAN.
Sybase plans to work together with the university in Waterloo to set up a new competence centre. In addition to supporting cooperation with the industry, the move is expected to drive on the development of technology. The aim of the initiative is to improve the roaming, security and battery life of portable end devices. Sybase hopes it will be able to facilitate synchronisation between individual units and guarantee the secure use of WLAN outside firewalls. Battery life should be improved with the help of local storage of important data, enabling user to work more offline.
