Stockholm (pte034/02.06.2003/14:20) - IBM http://www.ibm.com has won over the Electrolux group for a comprehensive outsourcing deal.
For the next seven years, Big Blue will take over the management of all PCs and local networks belonging to the household appliance manufacturer in Europe. In total, between 13,000 and 19,000 PCs are to be supplied with Lotus Notes, support, administration and helpdesk services.
The contract further foresees that IBM will standardise the group's IT structure so that synergies among Electrolux's 18 brands can be better used.
The price for the outsourcing deal is variable. Electrolux has agreed to pay IBM for the services used, so it can better navigate changing market conditions. Analysts estimate that the contract will be worth between 180 and 200m euros.
Both companies have been working in various partnerships for several decades, which was probably a factor in IBM's favour. Art Cox, vice president of Electrolux, said his company picked IBM because they have a "flexible approach" and a similar company culture. IBM is currently helping Electrolux accelerate its development processes.
