London (pte039/21.05.2003/16:20) - The music industry has launched a music information site called Pro.Music.org http://www.pro-music.org , which will provide users with an overview of legal music services on the web.
The site should also serve as a campaign platform to support the legal downloading of music and discourage illegal file sharing.
Pro-Music.org went online today. According to IFPI http://www.ifpi.org , it will offer links to over 200,000 legal downloads from online music dealers (MTV, MSN, Popfile, Tiscali, T-Online and Vitaminic).
Jay Berman, chairman and CEO of the IFPI international music association said the big success of Apples iTunes proves that music fans are ready to pay for the music of their favourite artists. Pro.Music.org will help them find the music they like, as well as provide information on the music industry.
The site is supported by the dealer organisation GERA Europe and the artist's organisations FIM and GIART, as well as by music businesses OD2 and MTV Europe.
