Stamford (pte048/20.05.2003/17:30) - The world chip market will continue to grow in 2003, according to a study by market researchers Gartner http://www.gartner.com .
Released today, the study predicts that the chip sector will "grow by double-digit figures" in 2003 and achieve a turnover of 168bn dollars. According to Gartner, the market will be driven by mobile phones, flat-screen monitors and digital video devices.
Gartner expects the world chip market to grow by 8.3 per cent. In the first quarter the sector has already grown by 8.9 per cent compared to the year before. Compared to the previous quarter the market grew by only 3.5 per cent, but recovery is expected to follow.
Gartner analyst Richard Gordon qualified the positive outlook by pointing out a high insecurity factor in the semiconducter market.
