London (pte034/20.05.2003/15:19) - The World Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation is launching an AIDS awareness campaign to fight against the transmission of HIV/AIDS in Africa and the Caribbean.
Broadcast in English, French, Portuguese, as well as local languages such as Hausa, Somali, Swahili and Kinyanwanda/Kirundi, the campaign will take the form of informative commercials, special programmes and features supplied free of charge by the BBC and other stations. The campaign will be financed by the BBC World Service Trust http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/us/trust , the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation http://www.kff.org and Viacom http://www.viacom.com . The launch is scheduled for autumn this year.
