Stockholm (pte043/19.05.2003/15:15) - MS Excel sheets can be converted to calculating web pages using Swedish ExcelEverywhere software http://www.exceleverywhere.com .
The final version of ExcelEverywhere allows data and formulas to be converted into an HTML file with JavaScript. Conversion to Java or ASP.NET is, however, only possible with the beta versions. A programme optimised for the Micro Edition of Java, which will be especially useful for mobile end devices and settop boxes, is in planning (J2ME http://java.sun.com/j2me ) .
Almost all functions are supported by Microsoft Excel 97, 2000 and XP under Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP operating systems. The data produced are also compatible with common web browsers and other operating systems, and not limited to Microsoft Excel.
The HTML variant is available for 99 dollars. The Java and ASP.NET versions cost 149 dollars each. In addition to a 30-day test version, the Swedish software developers have created an instant test in which the user mails an excel sheet to tryit@exceleverywhere.com and receives the sheet as an HTML file.
