New York (pte026/16.05.2003/14:05) - The partnership between the Internet portal Yahoo http://www.yahoo.com and Overture has proven to be extremely lucrative, according to a quarterly report submitted by Overture to the US economic authority SEC. The report states that the intake of the joint venture represents 19 per cent of the first-quarter turnover, writes the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) http://wsj.com . Overture http://www.overture.com delivers paid links to Yahoo for search-engine results.
In the first quarter Yahoo made US$53.8m. Last year only US$23.1m, or 12 per cent, of its quarterly turnover was registered. For Yahoo particularly, the deal is very lucrative.
Whenever Yahoo-users click on an advertisement link, the money paid by the advertising client goes to Overture. This intake is shared with Yahoo. Analysts say that the web portal profits so much because it doesn't need to pay Overture's costs, but still takes a part of the earnings.
The Yahoo/Overture contract runs until 2005.
