Boston (pte030/15.05.2003/13:31) - According to IBM head Samuel J. Palmisano the IT and computer industry continues to grow. Palismo presented his cautiously optimistic view at an annual presentation for analysts and investors in Boston, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) http://online.wsj.com .
According to Palmisano the situation in the branch has stabilised and is "very different to last year," though he didn't want to establish exactly when the current low in the IT branch would be over. Palmisano is convinced that the branch would grow by 2005.
The head of IBM named industry sectors as growth initiators. By 2005, 33 per cent of the branch's turnover will be made through consulting and "business process outsourcing." In 2000 21 per cent of the turnover was made this way. IBM strengthened its position in this area through its acquisition of the consulting branch PricewaterhouseCoopers last year.
Service and software are to make up 32 percent of the turnover, whereas last year's was only 25 per cent. Growth in the hardware section is expected not to be as good.
