New weight-stipulations for airline passengers
Individual airlines to change maximum capacity regulations

Washington (pte039/13.05.2003/14:40) - According to a recent study by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) the average air passenger weighs about 10.3kg more now than a 1995 survey ascertained. The weight of luggage has also increased.

For security reasons the FAA has thus issued a reduced weight capacity for passengers to 5kg per person and 2.5kg for hand luggage. In some cases this will mean that seats on smaller planes will have to remain empty. The new weight restrictions will not affect larger aircraft as much.

Previously the weight restrictions were 90kg per person including hand luggage during the summer season and 92.5kg for the winter season. Currently the overall weight is more than 10kg over the limit.

Airlines will now have the opportunity to stipulate its own weight regulations. The figures are required to be presented within the next 90 days, otherwise FAA regulations will become standard.
