Tokyo (pte032/02.05.2003/14:57) - The new "Wristomo" mobile phone by NTT DoCoMo http://www.nttdocomo.com will be available in stores on 7 May. The phone, which can be worn on a person's wrist, was first presented in March.
The waterproof Wristomo, which operates with the Personal Handy Phone Standard (PHS) and weighs 113 grams, will be available for about 300 euros http://www.wristomo.com . It can also send and receive e-mails of up to 6,000 characters at a transfer rate of 64 kbps. To make a phone call, however, the user must first remove the phone from his wrist.
Data can be transferred from Wristomo to a PC by means of a cable or mobile Internet connection.
The PH standard http://www.phsmou.or.jp is the successor to wireless DECT technology developed in Europe and Asia. The special advantage of PHS devices is their lower energy consumption.
