Cologne/ Peking (pte027/30.04.2003/12:45) - The Peking Imaging Expo 2003 will be postponed due to the outbreak of SARS in China, as reported today by Koelnmesse http://www.koelnmesse.de . Koelnmesse is organising the show together with the China Culture & Office Equipment Professional Association (CCOEA) http://www.ccoea.org.cn/english.htm .
The Imaging Expo was scheduled to take place from 30 May to 1 June. A new date, which the organisers say will "definitely be this year", is to be announced in May.
"At the moment we cannot guarantee the security of our exhibitors and their employees," said Koelnmesse manager Bernd Aufderheide.
Koelnmesse intends to monitor developments within the next weeks and then schedule a new date for the exposition - most probably sometime in late autumn.
The Imaging Expo is the second IT event to be directly affected by the SARS epidemic. The Computex trade fair scheduled to be held in June in Taiwan has now also been officially postponed.
Industry members had filed a petition to reschedule the fair and several companies had cancelled their participation (see newsfox: http://www.pressetext.com/pte.mc?pte=030429034&phrase=computex ). The organisers then conducted a survey of 1,148 exhibitors, 60 per cent of whom favoured postponing the event. The new date will be announced in May. (newsfox-special SARS)
