Bonn (pte038/24.04.2003/14:57) - The German anti-trust authority http://www.bundeskartellamt.de has approved the takeover of former Kirch media group by US billionaire Haim Saban. As expected, the purchase can now go through without no special conditions.
The Saban Capital Group can now buy the ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, as well as KirchMedia's TV and film rights business. As announced by the anti-trust authority today, the "development or reinforcement of a dominant market position" is not expected to result from the takeover.
The authority found that the German TV advertising and rights markets would not significantly change through the linking of TV station 'family' (Sat.1, ProSieben, Kabel 1, N24) and the film rights library. Neither Saban nor his private investment group Saban Capital Group have been active on the German television market up to now.
According to the authorities, the ProSiebenSat.1 group and its rival the RTL group together hold a market share of over 80 per cent on the German TV advertising market.
