Bonn/ Madrid/ Milan (pte031/07.04.2003/14:15) - Three European mobile giants announced today that they have joined together to be able to provide their clients - especially businesses - uniform services in the future.
The alliance consists of Telefonica Moviles, http://www.telefonicamoviles.com , T-Mobile International http://www.t-mobile.com , and TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) http://www.tim.it/eng . The aim of the cooperation is to improve competitive advantage in international business, and better compete with the world's largest mobile provider, Vodafone.
The new alliance will provide services to a total of 162m clients in 25 countries. Other mobile providers will have the option to join in the future.
The first step in the new cooperation will be to create new services in the fields of language, data transfer and mobile Internet by means of roaming agreements.
98.3m clients are situated in western Europe, 14.4m in eastern Europe, 36.6m in Latin America, 9.9m in the USA, and 2.8m in Mediterranean countries. The companies say the market has a potential of about one billion clients.
The new partners are currently preparing a unified roaming, language, data and mobile Internet services system, as well as new offers in distribution and equipment. Clients are to profit from the simplified tariff scheme and the possibility to use the services abroad as easily as at home.
