Espoo/ Palo Alto (pte033/26.02.2003/17:38) - Nokia http://www.nokia.com and HP http://www.hp.com are working together on a printer application that uses the basic print profile (BPP) of short-range radio.
This would enable users of Symbian OS smartphones and Nokia system series 60 to print various forms of content on HP bluetooth printers without a cable connection, as reported by heise online. A Nokia 7650 owner could use the new application to print anything ranging from photographs, MMS, e-mails and SMS to notes, contact data and calendar entries.
To carry out the printing procedure, the user selects the content he wishes to print and has the smartphone search for bluetooth printers within range. He can also select a bluetooth printer from a predefined list. If the chosen printer supports the basic print profile, the mobile device will send on the content.
According to heise, Nokia and HP are hoping for further developments from third companies. HP is offering developers training, marketing support and development kits, while Nokia provides support in its discussion forums.
